1995 A.D. The Persian Gulf situation heightens in fear and intensity. Frequently, and now continously,
confrontations arise between Iranian, Iraqui and American military units. As captain of the American
destroyer, U.S.S. John Young, the highest fleet commands order you to assist. Your instructions
involve extensive convoy protection. Also, submarine hunting and the bombardment of oil rigs, enemy
planes, tanks and battleships is critical to success. In your control is the most advanced weaponry.
But beware! The enemy is also prepared.

USS John Young (DD-973), named for Captain John Young, USN, was a Spruance-class destroyer of
the United States Navy. The ship was built by the Ingalls Shipbuilding Division of Litton Industries at
Pascagoula, Mississippi. In 1987, John Young deployed off the coast of Iran in support of Operation
Earnest Will and participated in Operation Nimble Archer. The USS John Young, following appropriate
Congressional notification, became one of eight combat ships that began receiving women as crew-
members in 1994. John Young teamed up with a Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachment (LEDET)
in late March 2001 for a major drug bust at sea. She was last stationed at San Diego, California.
The USS John Young was decommissioned on 30 September 2002. On 13 April 2004, John Young was sunk
during exercise RIMPAC 04 by a Mark 48 torpedo fired by the submarine Pasadena, which broke her in half.
